Beautiful Weekend, Good Friends

This past weekend we joined close friends on their annual trip to Cuivre River State Park in eastern Missouri.

The stated goals of the weekend were to open the trailers for the first time of the year, clean things up a little and figure out what mysteriously broke over the winter. There was some of that accomplished but the big thing for the trip was being outside away from the chores around the house and have relaxing fun with friends.  I, on the other hand, labored away installing mounting hardware on the bumper to accept a bike rack. Sherrie relearned how to play solitaire.  The normal division of labor.

We burned a few brat’s and dogs (all beef), later made s’mores’. Then spent the evenings watching the campfire while solving the world’s problems. Only a little bourbon was consumed.

Cuivre River State Park is great place for family camping.  The park is well maintained, has a 55-acre lake for fishing and swimming.  Was a little early in the year for swimming but the 35 miles of trails were put to good use.  Boy Scouts were seen with walking sticks and back packs and lone hiker was with his dog. The Big Sugar Creek Trail was well maintained and well-marked.  Sherrie only missed one turn.  I was able to save the day.

The woodland spring flowers were in full bloom.

We actually found a problem or two with our TT, no hot water and an elusive water leak.  The hot water was an easy fix after advice and an internet search.  The leak is still there, a project for the next trip.
