22 Miles Closer to that Little Red Dress
Yesterday we completed our sometimes-annual New Year’s Day bike ride with our very good friend Jimmie. It is a sometimes-annual ride because the Princess does not ride when it is below 32 degrees outside. I must admit that this is one of her rules that I happen to agree with but I try not to let on. It has been more than a couple of months since we have been on the trails near our home; our legs and the bicycle seats reminded us that we should have never let that much time go between rides.
2019
As one tends to do this time of year, conversations go to reliving previous rides and plans to do more in the future. We have been riding together sixteen years more or less. There are a lot of memories put in the bank over that time frame. One New Year’s ride is was so cold that we only made it a couple of miles before one of us called for a quick retreat to the house. A new rule was written that day. (see paragraph above)
2015, the 2500 season
Our annual mileage varies a lot from year to year. Our goal for each of us is usually in the 2000-mile range. A few years ago, we set a 2500-mile goal. I think that may have been the year the Princess wanted to get into a particular black dress for her high school reunion. It was well worth the effort I might add. Jimmie sometimes sets and exceeds a 3000-mile goal. He is an animal.
2014
If you have followed my ramblings last year you may recall we spent a lot of weeks on the road. The bicycles traveled with us much of the time but seldom got used. We may carry them around with us this year again. That has to count for something.
There is another event for another dress this year (red!) so our goal for 2019 is 2000 miles. We will keep you posted.
