We’re Dennis and Sherrie—also known as “The Princess.” As an active retired couple, we’ve fully embraced the freedom to explore the world at our own pace, leaving the 8-to-6 grind behind us. Sherrie grew up in a bustling eastern city, where she developed a love for museums and a tolerance for crowds, while I hailed from Southern Illinois, where hunting and fishing were the name of the game. Not your typical match, but somehow it has worked out splendidly!
.
Our first adventure, over 40 years ago, was a “get to know you” backpacking trip along the shores of Lake Superior. Let’s just say Sherrie may have exaggerated her outdoor experience a bit, but it all turned out just fine—mostly!
In the early days, our camping trips were all about finding a spot we could reach within 24 hours, pitching a tent for a few days, and then making the long journey back home just in time to get to work on Monday. Week-long trips to the mountains were a rare treat.
After years of car camping—about 30 years, more or less—we had our last tent adventure while exploring Lake Louise in Alberta, mainly in the rain. Spoiler alert: that really was our last time tent camping!
Now, we’ve upgraded to a mid-size travel trailer, our preferred method of travel. We stay on the road until we start missing the comforts of home, feel the urge to see our friends, or long for our cat’s nightly naps on our bed.
Ficktravels.com is our way of combining several of our life’s passions: traveling across this beautiful country, capturing stunning photographs (at least I think they are) along the way, and sharing our adventures with friends and family. Join us on this journey—we can’t wait to share it with you!
